Trauma and major illness can change more than health. They can change how people see themselves.<\/p>\n
Athletes may no longer trust their bodies. Leaders may struggle with confidence. Parents may feel guilty about needing help. Professionals may question what they can still do. Survivors may feel disconnected from the person they were before the event.<\/p>\n
People are often told to get back to normal. But sometimes the old normal no longer fits. Recovery can involve building a new identity that includes what happened without being defined entirely by it.<\/p>\n
You may still be an athlete, parent, leader, professional, advocate, or caregiver\u2014but those roles may look different. New roles can emerge too: survivor, mentor, educator, creator, or community advocate.<\/p>\n
Finding meaning after adversity does not require pretending the experience was good. It means deciding what you want to build with the life that remains.<\/p>\n
