Awareness is easier when it has simple language. One of the tools used in RTH educational materials is a three-state framework: Green, Yellow, and Red.
Green: relatively stable
In a Green state, thinking may feel clearer, reactions more proportionate, and energy more predictable. This does not mean life is stress-free. It means the system is handling current demands reasonably well.
Yellow: elevated
Yellow can include a busier mind, mild tension, reduced patience, inconsistent focus, or early signs that you are moving from one demand into another without enough recovery.
Yellow is valuable because it creates an opportunity to respond early rather than waiting until overload is obvious.
Red: overloaded
Red may involve racing thoughts, high reactivity, fatigue mixed with activation, difficulty slowing down, or a strong sense of being overwhelmed.
The purpose of the framework is not to label yourself. It is to guide the next decision. Green may support normal routine. Yellow may call for reducing load or taking a brief reset. Red may require stronger load reduction, support, or professional care depending on the situation.
RTH takeaway: The earlier you recognize your state, the more options you have.
This framework is an awareness tool, not a medical or mental-health diagnosis.
